Rain & wind odds

Seven national weather models and 122 ensemble runs, sampled across the whole city rather than one point, then scored and blended into one chance for the next 24 hours.

Asking seven models and three ensembles about the next 24 hours…

122 possible futures

Each dot is one run of an ensemble forecast, started from slightly different conditions. A filled dot is a run that brings at least 0.2 mm of rain in the next 24 hours.

Do the models agree?

Each national model's 24-hour rain total and strongest gust, with its score and how much it counts in the blend. Better-scoring models count more.

How the numbers are made

  • Location: the models are read at 13 points across the city (radius set by city size: about 18 km for Tehran) and the ensembles at 5. "Anywhere in the city" counts a run or model as rainy if it rains at any of those points (the neighbourhood method used by forecasting centres); "at one spot" uses only the nearest points. Your own location from the location button is always a single exact point.
  • Source score (0 to 100): 40% the model's global track record, 25% how fine its grid is (finer models see local showers better), 25% how closely it agrees with the ensembles, 10% how complete its data is.
  • Weight is proportional to the score squared, so better sources count much more.
  • Hourly chance of rain: 55% the share of ensemble runs with rain in that hour, 45% the weighted vote of the models. Model rain one hour early or late still half-counts, because models often get timing slightly wrong.
  • 24-hour chance of rain: the chance of at least 0.25 mm in total (the usual "measurable rain" level). Only what the models actually forecast is counted, and traces below that are ignored, because global models produce many tiny drizzle amounts that never reach the ground in dry climates.
  • Amounts: the typical (median) and wetter (90th percentile) 24-hour total across all 122 ensemble runs.
  • Chance of strong gusts: the chance that gusts pass your limit in at least one hour.
  • Best time to be outside: the 3-hour stretch with the lowest combined chance of rain and strong gusts.
  • Confidence is high when the sources agree and low when they disagree.

      About

Ghaheri Weather shows model forecasts for any city in a clear, honest way.

      Where the data comes from

Forecasts, current conditions and city search come from Open-Meteo, which combines national weather models such as ECMWF, GFS and ICON. Air quality comes from the CAMS model. "Now" values are model analyses for this hour, not readings from a nearby station.

How far to trust a forecast

The next three days are the most reliable. Days four to seven show trends. Days eight to sixteen are long-range guidance and often change, which is why they fade out in the daily list. Rain timing is less certain than temperature.
